SGT Joshua Cooley, USMC

On July 5, 2005, a roadside bomb in Iraq left Sgt Josh Cooley unable to walk, talk or write.  The photo’s below show Josh as a vibrant, U.S. Marine.    This photo was taken a few days before he was severely injured by the roadside bomb.

The photo on the right is Josh today (19 September 2010), Josh has gone thru many procedures to get to where he is today and never without faith that he would recover from this tragedy.  My wife and I had the distinct pleasure, no honor, to visit this Marine in his home on 19 September 2010.  Joshua has regained his ability to speak, write, and walk.  He communicates very well, has a great sense of humor and is truly an American hero.

Prior to joining the USMC in 2003, Josh was a 10 year veteran of the Pasco County Florida police department.  While serving as a police officer, he was decorated by Governor Crist for heroism and saving the life of a fellow police officer.  Josh is much more than a military hero, he is a man who has given all he can give first as a police officer then as a U.S. Marine.

SGT Cooley is in the center of the photo, just days before his tragic encounter with a car bomb.
